Frequently asked questions
Preventive dentistry is designed to help you maintain healthy teeth and gums for the long term, and minimise the amount of dental treatment required. It involves a proactive approach, focusing on regular check-ups, hygiene appointments and tailored advice to help avoid decay and gum disease and keep your natural teeth for life.
We recommend that most people visit the hygienist every six months, as regular professional teeth cleans and assessments are the best way to keep plaque, tartar and gum disease at bay. However, if you have active gum disease or a higher risk of decay, we may suggest more regular visits.
You shouldn’t find dental hygiene treatment painful, but you may feel some mild sensitivity or pressure while your teeth are being deep cleaned. We always ensure you are feeling relaxed and ready before we begin, and are happy to stop if you need a break part-way through treatment. We also offer Airflow, a completely pain-free dental hygiene treatment.
Airflow is an innovative hygiene treatment that gives a powerful and completely pain-free deep teeth clean. It uses a fine jet of compressed air, water and a fine powder to gently, quickly and effectively clean your teeth, especially in areas that are hard to reach with daily brushing. Airflow can also remove surface stains to brighten your smile.
